Loved hearing about your experience! I also just came back from China, having gone there for the first time since I was a baby. I was in Beijing, Xi'An, Zhangjiajie, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. I've also been to Taipei and other cities in Taiwan and loved it! Taiwan feels like a much more relaxed China, imo.
So many pitstops! What was your favorite? And yes, agreed re: Taiwan. I want to be sensitive to the complicated history Taiwan has had but it was my favorite too!
