I concur. Though I only pack two pairs of underwear (four, if white and black are needed) and two tee shirts because I have no problem sink washing them once worn. I like the constantly packed 'go-bag' for toiletries too.

I can't wrap my head around HOW you get "ALL" of the above into a piece of carryon luggage & a backpack???????

Haha I have my bag packed like that even right now while on a trip! Most of the clothes are fairly thin/rollable, and I wear my thickest items on the plane. I hope this helps!

Love these packing tips, especially the carry-on only mindset. A compact umbrella is honestly a travel essential for me now. I’ve been using Renuj Umbrellas for my trips and they fit perfectly in my carry-on without taking up much space.

ooh I will have to look them up!!

First off, great newsletter as always! Second, I cannot stress enough how much I do not recommend Kafka on the Shore. I've read a lot of books and this is the one and only book I just quit reading halfway through. There are some really graphic and elongated animal torture scenes in it that feel wildly unnecessary.

Oh nooo, okay that's going to be a no from me then!!!

Also, what do you normally use your airline credit for on your AMEX Platinum? I use mine on Delta and sometimes we do check our bags since it’s free & I use it to get my husband into the lounge. I pack light & if it’s free we’ll check our bags just for ease.

I use ours on United's TravelBank (the world's worst kept secret)! But mostly because United's hub is in Newark, which is home for our family.

I thought I had heard/read that it doesn’t work on TravelBank anymore. But it also makes sense since home for your families is NJ.

I try to fly Delta more than other airlines and we have a lounge in Austin so I’ve used my credit on lounge access for my husband & to check a bag on certain flights. He has a UA card so if we fly United we use his card and get free checked bags if we need it.

It worked for us at least on Jan 1 when we tested it (we usually check Reddit before we do it to see if anyone has any updates). I'm pretty much only flying Delta nowadays because of Atlanta's hub, so I downgraded my UA card and Jovanni kept his so we have the same setup!

This was a good read! As we near our upcoming trip I’m obsessed with all things packing trying to figure out what works for me.

I was going to copy/paste this because it is REALLY good, but then I remembered: I'm 85. My family is all gone ( :''{ ). Most of my friends are waiting for me. I probably won't be going anywhere.... Not to be a downer, but.... But this is really something useful.
